WARUM DIESE ROUTE

Warum die German Alpine Road?

The German Alpine Road runs from Lindau on Lake Constance to Schönau am Königssee. Over 447 kilometres, it links some of the best-known landscapes of the Allgäu and Upper Bavaria.

Alpine passes, clear mountain lakes, historic towns and the panorama of the Bavarian Alps accompany the entire route. Its varied line makes it one of Germany's most important holiday routes.

GUT ZU WISSEN

Praktische Infos.

Road & surface

Mostly well-maintained federal and state roads. On fine weekends there's lots of leisure traffic.

Speed limits and temporary motorcycle bans apply on several stretches, for example at the Kesselberg. Check the current rules before your tour – checks are frequent.

Tolls & fees

There are no tolls on the main route. Some panoramic roads, such as the Roßfeld Panoramastraße, charge a small fee.

Fuel & breaks

There are fuel stations in every larger town. Beer gardens and mountain inns invite you to stop everywhere.

Tips for the tour

It's quieter on weekdays and early in the morning.

Many stretches are noise hotspots: riding considerately helps keep them open to motorcycles.

Plan three to five days if you want to take in castles and lakes.
