WARUM DIESE ROUTE

Warum die Wild Atlantic Way?

The Wild Atlantic Way runs from Malin Head in the far north of Ireland to Kinsale in the south. Over just over 1,600 kilometres, our route follows the rugged Atlantic coast through nine Irish counties.

Windswept coasts, narrow roads, small harbour towns and some of Ireland's most impressive landscapes make it one of Europe's most extraordinary coastal routes.

GUT ZU WISSEN

Praktische Infos.

Road & surface

In Ireland, you drive on the left – take extra care after breaks and at junctions.

Many sections are narrow back roads with patched tarmac, potholes and grass in the middle. When it rains it gets slippery – and it rains often.

Tolls & fees

The coastal road is toll-free. Tolls only apply on some motorways you might use to get there.

Fuel & breaks

There are fuel stations in almost every larger town. On remote peninsulas such as Beara or Inishowen there are gaps – fill up in good time.

You'll find pubs serving food everywhere, many with kitchens open into the evening.

Tips for the tour

Plan at least two weeks – or ride just one section, such as Kerry and Cork in the south.

Good rain gear is a must; the weather changes quickly.

The Discovery Points along the route are almost always worth a stop.
